Barrett
Max Barrett is a French fine art photographer based in Chatou, near Paris. He has photographed for many years outside any academic framework. Long exploratory, his practice found its own ground with Avant d'oublier, a body of unstable portraits where the face becomes a remnant.
The face is the form we recognise most instinctively. In his images that recognition is suspended, not to disappear, but to reveal what remains when certainty fades.
To refuse to fix the face is to refuse to possess it.
He works with movement, long exposure and multiple exposure. His prints are made on handmade hemp paper crafted by Jean-Pierre Gouy, a master papermaker in Corrèze, France, a rare material that carries into matter itself this questioning of what remains and what fades.
